Course Structure
This course guides you step by step in the practice of meditation, combining theory, reflection, and exercises so that you can integrate what you learn into your daily life. Throughout four progressive modules, you’ll explore everything from the fundamentals of the practice to a deeper understanding of the mind and reality.
Each module includes required practices and optional activities so you can adapt the experience to your own pace. In addition, you’ll have access to recorded sessions with a Lama and the option to attend retreats to consolidate your learning.
Module 1 – Asana
The foundation of meditation
Duration: 3 months
Before talking about mental calm or wisdom, we need to establish a solid foundation. This first module will help you understand what meditation is—and what it is not—dispel unrealistic expectations, and familiarize yourself with mindfulness (sati).
We will also address something essential: the feeling of incompetence and fallibility that often arises at the beginning. Rather than seeing it as an obstacle, you’ll learn to befriend it and sustain your practice without unnecessary frustration.
Optional activity: Intensive practice I
Module 2 – Samatha & Dukkha
Cultivating stability and understanding suffering
Duration: 6 months
2.1 Samatha
Here we will explore the path of mental calm (samatha). Meditation is not always easy, but understanding the most common obstacles and their antidotes will help you stay motivated. We will discuss typical obstacles in meditation practice (and in life in general), such as laziness, distraction, and discouragement, and how to manage and transform them in your favor.
2.2 Dukkha
Understanding suffering changes the way we relate to it. In this module, we will deepen our understanding of the causes of suffering, the three poisons (desire, aversion, and ignorance), and the role of the ego in our experience. We will also reflect on individual responsibility and how awareness of interdependence can transform the way we exist in the world.
Mandatory activity: Deepening retreat
Optional activities: Intensive practice I and II
Module 3 – Maitri & Karuna
Meditation and opening the heart
Duration: 6 months
We often think of meditation as just calm and concentration, but in reality, training the mind also means cultivating a more open and available heart. Furthermore, from a Buddhist perspective, since our reality is interdependent (and we therefore need one another), without an outlook that cultivates altruism, we cannot find true and lasting happiness.
In this module, we will explore the Four Immeasurables or Brahmaviharas:
- Loving-kindness (maitri)
- Compassion (karuna)
- Empathic joy (mudita)
- Equanimity (upeksha)
Optional activities: Intensive practice I and II, personalized retreats
Module 4 – Sati, Anitya & Sunyata
The four seals
Duration: 9 months
4.1 Sati
We will explore the Satipatthana, the four foundations of mindfulness or the four ways of being present. This classical teaching will help you sharpen your perception and develop more stable and profound attention.
4.2 Anitya
We will reflect on impermanence and its impact on how we live and meditate. We will also explore patience and wisdom as responses to uncertainty.
4.3 Sunyata
Here we will delve into emptiness (Madhyamaka) and the role of egocentrism in our emotions. For many people, this module is the most transformative, as it invites us to question what we take for granted about ourselves and the world.
Mandatory activity: Final retreat of 5-7 days
Module 5 – Refuge
Wisdom and liberation
Duration: 3 masterclasses with Lama Norbu
In the final module with Lama Norbu, we will address refuge and wisdom.
Mandatory activity: Make a final assignment and present it
Optional activities: Any of the intensive practices and retreats

Testimonials
I highly recommend this course to everyone around me. I've just completed the first module and I can already see its amazing potential, with very useful teachings and excellent instructors!
Marc VidalThe meditation course at Casa Virupa was a turning point in my life. The course is very well-structured and gradually paced, delivered by excellent instructors who are deeply committed to the students' development. I completed it four years ago, and the knowledge, tools I gained, and the people I met still accompany me to this day.
Dídac FortunyThe meditation course at Casa Virupa is a true gem. I spent years meditating with different apps, without managing to integrate the practice into my daily life or understand the true heart of Buddhism. This course is the complete opposite. And the instructors are truly extraordinary.
Alec LechterI joined this course hoping to learn how to meditate, and I ended up learning a whole new way of being in the world. Here, it’s not just about sitting in silence — it’s about inhabiting that silence with meaning, looking inward with direction, care, courage, and companionship. The practice offered by Casa Virupa seeps into the way you see, walk, and respond to the world. Thanks to this course, awareness has stopped being just a concept and has become a daily gift — a space to breathe and a compass when I feel lost.
Lucía MaderaThe meditation course at Casa Virupa has helped me take care of my mind — and, through that, take care of my surroundings. Since I started sitting on the cushion, I’ve noticed a clear improvement in the quality of my relationships, starting with the one I have with myself and extending even beyond friends and family to include strangers. Meditation feels especially important nowadays, when there are fewer and fewer spaces for stillness, silence, and chosen solitude. It offers me a moment to pause, slow down the inner rush, and simply breathe.
Emma VillavecchiaFor me, there is a before and after Casa Virupa. I only wish I had discovered it earlier — I could have faced my husband’s passing with more wisdom, understanding, and tools.
Núria ViladotI started the meditation course at Casa Virupa without much expectation and with little idea of what meditation really was. I had read that it was healthy, helped manage stress, and that some people meditated a lot and were very happy. It ended up transforming my daily life and the way I move through the world. I didn’t know it at the time, but I was walking in the dark — now I have a light that helps me see where I’m placing my steps!
Cristina LarrosaThe term “life changing” is often too easily used. To me, in Casa Virupa’s meditation course’s case - it’s very adequate.
It’s a deep and complete life changer - it gave me a door to get an inside look at my mind and the keys to reprogram it in a calm, wise and generous way.
The fruits of this practice are felt in many fields in my life, be it my relationships or my way of making music.
I’m very grateful for having taken this course and to be going through this beautiful journey with the people in it.
They told me about the course and said it had changed their life. I judged this as an exaggeration. After taking it, I can't find a better summary: doing the meditation course and connecting with Casa Virupa has changed my life—how I look at my mind and the tools I use to relate to it.
Gala JodarBuddhist teachings don't promise magical solutions, but they offer something profound and real: learning to be present, trying to let go of what weighs us down, and seeing things with more clarity. It's not a complicated path, but it requires determination to follow it. The best news is that you find yourself walking alongside others who, like you, seek more calm, presence, and meaning in their lives.
Asun ValI'd been looking for a way to better manage my emotions, professional stress, and mental noise for some time. I began the meditation course on a family member's recommendation. I gradually noticed that my mind was subtly transforming and that I was beginning to enjoy the present moment more. Although I still have a long way to go, I am very grateful for having made this decision, which I consider one of the most important of my life.
Merche AlcaláCasa Virupa's meditation course is a unique opportunity to get to know and understand the mind. I was searching for tools to be more at peace with myself, but what I found was a proposal that went much further: a proposal that aims for the wellbeing of all beings beyond just myself. The course is a journey of self-discovery with a very well-structured method and wise, dedicated teachers! This has been a very positive experience not only for me, but also for the impact it has had on the people around me!
Cora BarderiThe meditation course at Casa Virupa has helped me establish the habit of meditating every day, something I hadn’t been able to achieve on my own. The group format allows you to gain a deeper understanding by seeing different perspectives and sharing the process. It has also brought the vision and practice of Buddhism closer to my reality in a grounded way.
Lluc VillanuevaI started the courses without knowing the journey ahead of me. They are changing my perspective, and thanks to this, everything looks better.
Carla BudoIf I could, I would do it a thousand times over. It’s a transformative experience. I signed up looking only for mental peace, but I discovered so much more: a deep understanding of myself and the world around me. It has taught me to love in a more authentic and fulfilling way. I couldn’t recommend it more!
Paula GramonaI’m taking the online meditation course at Casa Virupa, and it has been a deeply transformative experience. The group that forms is incredibly kind, gentle, respectful, and generous, thanks to the course’s very human tone. Jana EstradaIn the Casa Virupa meditation course, I discovered—guided by brilliant instructors and with great care and attention—how the path of meditation helped me better understand and manage my mind and emotions, enabling me to live with greater mindfulness, clarity, and compassion.
Iris MoyesThe most interesting and radical aspect of the course is that you learn through self-awareness: while meditating on the cushion, beginning to be present and attentive in everyday moments, and by listening week after week to what other participants have discovered. And for those of us who tend to rationalize and be skeptical, seeing the light you yourself ignite is priceless.
Xavi MarinThanks to this course, I have learned to better understand my mind and manage my emotions more effectively. It’s great how it combines Buddhist meditation and philosophy from a contemporary perspective, because everything I’ve learned I can apply in my daily life.
Claudia PadillaThe Casa Virupa meditation course has been the best tool to begin transforming my mind and, consequently, my life. Both my surroundings and I are very grateful.
Sandra GardTaking the Casa Virupa meditation course has been transformative—both for acquiring a technique and essential refuge for my daily life, and for being part of a community of students full of love and humanity. The instructors’ technical expertise, purity, and support, as well as the Casa Virupa environment, are unmatched. Thank you.
Guillermo IzquierdoThe Beginner’s Meditation Course at Casa Virupa was a gift from my daughters. Without a doubt, the best gift I have ever received. I continued taking the course because of all the knowledge it provides. Highly recommended.
Montserrat PeláezI was looking to learn how to meditate with someone who could clearly convey the context and meaning of the meditation practice, without embellishments or questionable theories. Thanks to a friend’s recommendation, I trusted Casa Virupa, and today I can say it was a great decision. I’ve been learning to meditate with them for almost two years now, and every day I notice more benefits—especially the personalized support from the teaching team.
Helena LópezI have found the introductory meditation courses and Buddhist teachings to be very carefully designed, using a language that is approachable, courageous, and kind—encouraging you to transform your mind and examine how you relate to the world. Essential for a more conscious life.
Pol RojasStarting to meditate, thanks to Casa Virupa's course, has helped me calm my mind and be more present in my daily life. At first, it was difficult, but thanks to their support and consistency, I have noticed greater clarity, less reactivity, and a deeper understanding of myself.

Gina SusannaI feel very fortunate to have come into contact with the course and Casa Virupa. I have discovered what "quality of presence" truly means, embodied in the wisdom and care of the instructors and Lama Norbu. The course has given me many tools for introspection and perspective to navigate life with greater awareness and to have a more positive impact on others.
Marçal FortunyOne day I stepped into Casa Virupa and was fascinated by the coherence, integrity, and kindness of the people involved in the project. I took the meditation course, and now I live with a bit more coherence, integrity, and kindness than before, among many other things. The tools they teach are incredibly useful for living and relating better, with more tenderness toward oneself and others.
